Fundraising to Support Breast Cancer  Patients and Promote Breast Health Education

HONG KONG, May 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Around 600 guests attended the 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner hosted by The Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF), raising funds to support breast cancer patients and promote breast health.

The Gala, themed “Journeying Together,” symbolizes the HKBCF’s unwavering dedication to accompanying patients and survivors on their path to recovery. Addressing the gala, Dr. Eliza Fok, Chairman of the HKBCF, said, “One of the core missions of the HKBCF is to bring hope to breast cancer patients. Despite all the challenges we faced over the past two decades, our commitment and perseverance remain steadfast.”

She added that in the future, the HKBCF would continue to promote breast health, support patients throughout their cancer journeys, and advocate for universal breast cancer screening.

Apart from thanking supporters and donors, Dr. Fok also expressed gratitude to the Guests of Honor for their presence, including The Hon Alice Mak Mei Kuen, SBS, JP, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs; Dr. The Hon Ko Wing Man, GBS, JP, Members of the Executive Council and Former Honorary Patron of the HKBCF; Mr. Henry Fan Hung Ling, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Hospital Authority; Dr. Pang Fei Chau, Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Health Bureau; Dr. Edwin Leong Siu Hung, Patron of the HKBCF; and Mr. Charles Yang Chuen Liang, BBS, JP, Chairman of Admissions, Budgets and Allocations Committee of The Community Chest.

Adorned throughout the Gala ballroom were countless beautiful pink butterflies symbolising metamorphosis, reflecting the transformative journeys of patients and serving as a poignant reminder of survival and renewal.

The HKBCF was founded in 2005 by Dr. Polly Cheung, together with Dr. Fok, and a group of medical professionals and breast cancer survivors, to provide encompassing support services for breast cancer patients. “More than 110,000 mammography and ultrasound examinations have been conducted by the HKBCF since our commissioning in service, enabling early detection of breast cancer for nearly 3,000 women. The cumulative number of attendances of our Breast Cancer Support Centre has also reached 300,000, while talks and seminars on breast health and breast cancer prevention organised by our Breast Health Centre have drawn an impressive attendance of over 130,000 participants,” said Dr. Cheung.

The Gala Dinner, hosted at Regent Hong Kong, was elevated by the captivating singing performances of special guests, including Dr the Hon Moses CHENG Mo Chi, GBM, GBS, JP, member of Executive Council of the HKSAR Government, and renowned pop singers JW and HKBCF Ambassador, Ms. Joyce Lee, whose melodies added a touch of glamour to the evening.

Another notable moment at the dinner was the charity auction led by the well-known auctioneer, Ms. Sara Mao, the Director for Christie’s Education in Asia Pacific. The auction boasted five precious lots, including a precious Pink Butterfly brooch bearing 46 carats of morganites, alongside pink sapphires, blue sapphires, and diamonds; a one-year membership at Club Bâtard; two bottles of 1999 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru; a bottle each of 2000 Château Mouton Rothschild and 2015 Château Margaux; and last but not least, a rare Collector’s Set of HSBC Banknotes in denominations of $1,000, $500, $100, $50 and $20, all bearing the serial number “888888”. The bids livened up the atmosphere and brought in crucial funds to support HKBCF’s work against breast cancer.

Meanwhile, as part of our anniversary celebration, HKBCF is offering a special discount up to 12% on 3D mammography (including X-rays) to encourage local women to engage in regular breast screening, emphasizing that early detection can save lives. This offer will be available from now till the end of June.
