Bangkok, 21 November, 2022 – Matara, Thailand’s premier jewelry artisan boutique with a reputation for excellence in exquisite craftsmanship, timeless curations of pearl and high-lux jewelry creations, announces the December launch of its new sales boutique at 2nd Floor, Gaysorn Centre, Gaysorn Village Bangkok. Matara was founded in Bangkok in 2014 and has risen to international prominence through its collaborations with world-class jewelry designers and luxury brands. It adds to its three boutiques in Bangkok, the launch being a response to growing inbound visitor numbers following the country’s successful emergence from the pandemic.
During the period of Covid-19, Matara received exceptional support of a community of loyal customers who have continued to commission, request designs and order from established collections, as well as order new one-of-a-kind pieces. The latest store at Gaysorn has launched to provide visiting customers and domestic collectors the chance to order exclusive new articles, whilst also enabling the brand to showcase its latest designs in the Matara Fine Jewelry collection (Pearl and 18k Yellow, White and Rose Gold), Matara High Jewelry (Mother of Pearl and 18k Yellow, White and Rose Gold and Diamond), and the flagship Matara Diamond collection.
Co-Founder and CEO, Jongjin Jungsura, Matara Studio Co., Ltd, said, “We’ve been fortunate post-covid that we’ve managed to rely on our strong, small niche community of clients who enjoy wearing our designs and stay in close contact for special commissions, or simply to follow our latest international jewelry designer collaborations.”
“Our customers have played a huge part in our origin story and rise to international repute – particularly among worldwide visitors who stay at The Peninsula Bangkok and who love to order high-end products from our standard lines to avoid long custom-order lead times – and happily, they can now return to Bangkok to shop and stay. So, it’s ‘business as usual’ as we work to create exquisite pieces which represent trending themes such as diversity, inclusion, generational appreciation and bonding with others.”

This exquisite line is made of extremely rare-grade natural pearl, a quality of which accounts for just 0.2% of all available pearl on the global market. It presents ‘private commission’ level of handcrafted quality and yet can be ordered as current lines via the new boutique and other Matara store locations in Bangkok.
The new retail store also enables Matara to expand its 2022/2023 Matara Studio collection, making exclusive and aspirational pieces more accessible for younger, fashion-oriented collectors to achieve a gateway into the brand’s coveted collections. It also lets Matara build two-way customer relationships with those new clients looking to begin their own portfolio of appreciating pearl, gold and diamond-set pieces at a reasonable entry point.
The new store offers a consultation area for fitting and advice, design area & private showcase, and Personal Shopping experience as well as connection to the Matara Private Commission service. It complements the brand’s current locations at Central Embassy and The Peninsula Bangkok, and international studios in London, New York and the forthcoming Los Angeles boutique.
To mark the launch of the new store, Matara has taken six exceptional pieces from its Private Commission portfolio and made them available to order. This makes it possible for customers to personally acquire some of the jewelry house’s most precious, custom-designed one-offs to add to their own collections while significantly reducing design times, which typically can be up to six months for private commissions. This serves the needs of international visitors to Thailand to have their dream piece ready during a two-week stay. The “Embrace Diversity”/Bombshell Bonding” collectors’ items are limited edition and available in small-batch, 100% hand-made exclusive quantities.
During the December period in the run-up to the Christmas holiday, Matara is providing an extended complimentary guarantee, from 2 years to 3 years during December 2022 for customers placing orders for jewelry pieces in all of its collections. The 2022/23 collection has also been expanded with additional pieces added to the Matara High Jewelry collections, to encompass wearable art pieces that are simultaneously simple, elegant and classic. Additionally, Matara is looking forward to announcing new artist and international designer collaborations at the new store launch, which will feature an exclusive presentation of next year’s forthcoming collections. “Our latest collections and individual pieces celebrate the international connection to diversity and passion for art, design and giving thanks and love to our strong community,” concludes Jongjin Jungsura.

About Matara
Matara, founded in Bangkok, Thailand in 2014, is a luxury pearl jewelry brand that established a reputation for excellence with exquisite craftsmanship and remarkable jewelry creations. Over the years, Matara defined a new wave of pearls with creative interpretations by combining the uniqueness of pearls with exquisite and contemporary designs. Behind the brand is an everlasting friendship. Matara is an amalgam of CEO Jongjin “Jin” Jungsura’s last name, and the names of her two co-founders, CCO Salil “Tangmo” Andraphan, and COO Patchaploy “Prae” Matarungsombat. The three go back a long way, having studied together as kids at St. Francis Xavier Convent School, before continuing at Chulalongkorn University. While Jin continued to pursue her Master’s in International Management at Royal Holloway in the UK and studied hospitality in Switzerland, they have always remained close.
In 2014, the trio decided to set up a pearl jewelry business as they saw a gap in the market. “We want to change traditional views and reinvent pearls for young, modern women. At the same time, we also want to educate consumers about pearls. Those pearls on your costume jewelry aren’t real.” Jin explained in an interview with Business Leader, UK.
In 2015, Matara was first launched in the London consignment market. Consumers embraced the contemporary concept, and the brand began to expand internationally, entering new markets such as Paris in 2016, New York in 2016 and Southeast Asia in 2020. Matara successfully launched the fine jewelry line in 2016. Together with S.Maneephand, one of Asia’s top jewelry makers, the power duo designed outstanding pieces inspired by nature, architecture and everything in between. The brand also created its High Jewelry line in 2021 – jewelry that is timeless and feminine, enhancing the natural beauty of mother-of-pearl and the brilliance of metals. By creating Masterworks of Art, pearl jewelry that touches the summits of craftsmanship, Matara turns luxury jewelry pieces into masterworks of art.
This year, Matara appeared at the 75th Cannes Film Festival and 79th Venice Film Festival. Celebrities and fashion models from Heart Evangelista to Leonie Hanne were decked in Matara pearls on the prestigious red carpet. Today, Matara has over 30 collections – from brilliant pearl to dazzling diamond pieces – for every occasion, for every mademoiselle.
