Chung-Ang University brings DeepL Language AI into translator education

Students gain hands-on experience with Language AI and the workflows shaping the future of translation

SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — DeepL, a global leader in Language AI, today announced that Chung-Ang University has integrated DeepL Pro into the Advanced Interpretation & Translation Program (AITP) at its Graduate School of International Studies, giving students hand-on experience with the AI technologies increasingly shaping professional translation. The university is the first institution in South Korea to introduce the platform for educational use within a professional translation and interpretation program.

“Our goal is to give students the opportunity to experience technologies used in the translation industry before they graduate,” said Junho Lee, Professor of Korean-English Translation at the Advanced Interpretation & Translation Program, Graduate School of International Studies, Chung-Ang University. “With DeepL, students can experience a broad range of translation workflows through an integrated platform, while DeepL’s continued introduction of new capabilities allows us to bring current developments in translation technology into the classroom. Integrating DeepL into our curriculum helps students understand how to make effective use of AI alongside their own linguistic expertise.”

The university introduced DeepL in March 2026 as part of a broader effort to prepare students for future careers in translation and interpretation. Its curriculum, which had previously focused primarily on conventional computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, now gives students access to new AI-powered translation technologies so that they can gain practical experience with the workflows becoming more common across the industry.

CAU selected DeepL to familiarize students with the technologies they are likely to encounter in professional settings after graduation. DeepL’s broad adoption across the translation industry was another factor in the university’s decision. According to the ELIS industry survey, DeepL is the most widely used machine translation tool in Europe.

DeepL Pro is now used in classes across CAU’s AITP, where students can explore its capabilities as part of their existing translation coursework. For faculty, the integration provides a way to bring current developments in Language AI directly into their teaching.

CAU’s AITP is widely regarded as one of South Korea’s top four graduate-level programs for master’s-level translation and interpretation education. The university had already incorporated LLM-based CAT technologies into its curriculum before introducing DeepL Pro.

The introduction of DeepL at CAU reflects a broader shift in the profession, as Language AI becomes an increasingly important part of how translators work. For the next generation of language professionals, knowing how to work effectively with AI is becoming part of the skill set alongside deep linguistic and cultural expertise.

“AI is transforming how people work across languages, including professional translators, and the industry is moving quickly,” said Jarek Kutylowski, founder and CEO of DeepL. “Its important that the next generation has opportunities to work with these technologies as they develop. Through our collaboration with Chung-Ang University, students can build practical experience with Language AI, understand its impact on the industry, and learn how to use it in ways that complement their own unique judgement and linguistic expertise.”
