What the September Jobs Report Really Changes for Global Markets

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — JustMarkets recently released a comprehensive analysis on the implications of the latest US employment report for global financial markets. The most recent release of US employment data on September 4, covering August, surprised markets to the upside. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 162,000, while the unemployment rate held at 4.1%. June and July nonfarm payroll statistics were also upwardly revised by 55,000.

On the surface, this can be considered a clear signal of strong labor market conditions. However, for financial markets, the numbers behind the payroll figure can matter even more. Wages, labor market participation rate, and revisions can be equally as crucial.

What the Report Stated in Detail

The US labor force grew by 683,000, lifting participation to 61.6% from 61.4%. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3% monthly and 3.1% year to date.

Despite stronger job growth, wage growth remained steady, while rising participation suggested a larger labor supply that could ease upward pressure on wages.

For traders monitoring releases via tools such as the JustMarkets Economic Calendar, these are the reasons all these metrics are best analyzed together.

Potentially supportive

These are common examples of first-order reactions, but other cases can arise depending on current market positioning, inflation data, and existing rate expectations.

How Markets Initially Reacted

Markets interpreted the report as increasing the likelihood of tighter Federal Reserve policy. The 2-year Treasury yield rose to about 4.37%, the dollar index gained 0.2%, spot gold fell 1.2%, and the S&P 500 declined 0.38%.

Stronger employment gave the Fed more room to prioritize inflation control. Higher rate expectations supported the dollar, pressured gold as yields rose, and left equities facing mixed signals.

But the Durable Signal Was More Complex

The report did not necessarily indicate that the labor market is overheating.

Wage growth remained contained, the participation rate grew, and stronger employment came with a stronger labor supply. This is an important point because the Fed is not reacting to payroll growth. They are trying to determine whether labor market conditions are creating inflation pressure.

What Changed After the Report Was Published?

The main change here is in the risk assessment related to monetary policy.

Before the report, labor market deterioration could support holding rates unchanged. Both payroll growth and revisions weakened it.

It became clear on September 16, when the Federal Reserve increased its target range by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00%.

Thus, for CFD traders working with JustMarkets, the takeaway is that the employment reports may impact the dollar, gold, and equity indices within seconds. However, a more durable signal can come from the interaction between jobs, wages, and participation.
