The NX Group first set up its operations in Singapore in 1973 and has grown its presence from local market operations into a regional hub leveraging Singapore’s world-class connectivity across air, sea and land to support complex supply chains across Asia. Today, Singapore houses the NX Group’s regional headquarters, Nippon Express (South Asia & Oceania) Pte. Ltd., which oversees 15 countries across Southeast Asia, South Asia and Oceania, as well as several local subsidiaries. The purpose of EDB’s visit was to discuss the NX Group’s global growth strategy and explore how Singapore can support by serving as a potential base for key global functions to drive business expansion in Asia. Representing the NX Group were NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS President Satoshi Horikiri, NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS Senior Managing Executive Officer Satoshi Otsuji and Nippon Express (South Asia & Oceania) President Katsuhito Kobayashi.
The NX Group’s global growth strategy seeks to capitalize on Asia’s growth potential and Singapore’s international business-friendly environment against the backdrop of a multipolar global logistics market and ongoing efforts to restructure supply chains and diversify sourcing.
They also examined the use of AI and automation technologies in the logistics industry, exploring the possibility of utilizing Singapore as a hub for incorporating AI and other digital technologies into logistics services while strengthening the NX Group’s IT solutions capabilities and developing functions such as logistics operations design and launch, warehouse automation verification and human resource development. As one of these initiatives, the Singapore operations have already introduced AI-enabled forklifts and robotic sorting systems, using these technologies to improve safety and productivity at logistics sites. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of EDB and the NX Group to further deepening the partnership and expanding areas of cooperation to support the NX Group’s continued growth in Singapore.
